Totally fair. And I too have seen similar things. I am responding to this article in the way I am because of the tone of the author. She doesn't really talk about performance, just about how this young person needs to conform to old person work rules.

That said I also think that we all have to acknowledge that right or wrong, good or bad, the reality is that younger people have been raised differently than many of us (I'm nearly 50) and we can either complain about this from our porch rockers or we can accept it and rejigger how we work. When I hear a younger person talking about how they need better onboarding, for instance, I have a bit of "I didn't get help! I had to learn myself! And walk uphill both ways to school!" But that was shitty for me and it's shitty for them. However they're going about it, the new generations are asking for the help that they need. And that's laudable.

I agree with you about giving them support. The group I work with, small, high energy, highly motivated, and exceptionally knowledgeable, give everyone very high levels of support. We work hard, often long, when needed. But at the same time…
